Wednesday

So fellow followers( the 4 of you)

I will be leaving you with the two interviews that have become some sort of my guiding force for later on in life. If you want to see more interviews, do not fear, you will, for this is just the beginning.

Still thinking...

For the second interview I opted to choose a college student because I wanted to contrast in between  lives. However, these people were aiming for a common goal, some sort of happiness. The hope that something better will come. Juan says this during the interview, whatever happens it does not matter, he needs to be happy no matter what. Mario did not quite say it word for word, but you could feel it, you could feel his hopes for something better whatever it may be.

Philosophy of a Car Washer

After finishing the interview, the next step was to edit the footage. So there I was editing away at 1 in the morning, and this process felt different. I had done music videos or short video collages but never an interview, as I was editing I saw this man(Mario) through his eyes, the life he had, and it made me reflect immensely on what he did everyday. This man, wakes up every single day and goes on to a gas stations parking lot where he washes cars all day long, if there are any cars to wash. I had to stop for a second and really process that concept. In a certain way, the man has no future, I might be going to the extreme here but it was just an uneasy feeling(of having no future). So I began thinking of the other people who go on about their lives and do not appreciate what they have it is just so nervewracking at times. In conclusion, Mario really made me think... and I am still thinking.

PART 2

So there I was my first interview, my first real life experience with a homeless person, in a way there was some sort of adrenaline rush, since this was my first project in which I was to shoot and edit, also there was the underlying feeling he might attack me. Yet, as I started the interview, things went on to be great, he answered my questions politely and even threw in a few jokes, it was a good experience. So on to part 3, where I will get a bit philosiphical, so you have been warned reader!

Reflecting...

My first reflection will deal with Mario, remember him? Oh yes, he was our first test subject...errr, I mean volunteer. Anyways, being completely honest with you I remember I was afraid approaching people I did not know, especially some homeless person, there is always a certain fear that he might attack me. Hopefully he did not...

END OF PART 1.

With no camera there are,

No more interviews I'm sorry to say(for now) this is a project i was very interested in keepin up, since my main passion has always been film, what better way than to express this emotion, through interviews, with this I should take a step back and reflect upon what I learned...

So to you all thrillseekers...

Are in for quite a surprise, since my camera has stopped working, I am guessing this is enough for me to throw in the towel and call it a quit, but not for now, I will never give and never surrender to get those videos that make us unique.

Lives Gone By - JUAN

Juan is a 24 year old who studies, works, and is also an aspiring musician(will post music video for one of his most popular songs) and to make things worse he cannot see his girlfriend due to the distance that separates them(shes in Pachuca, Mexico). This are the challenges he faces, the challenges that make us human and unique. The challenges that drives us to move forward.

Video Edited/Directed/Mixed by Erick M. Solis 2011.

Finally...

After what? A long time, well not that long. I have finished shooting ,editing, and mixing the next chapter in LIVES GONE BY. Where I feature the biggest grammatical mistake in the history of opening credits. I misspell the word LIVES with DAYS. Those of you familiar with the title Days Gone By, will realize that its a song from the year 2000 or something. A song I listened regularly when I was 11. I'm sorry for the mistake, the mistake is obvious and in BIG FONT LETTERS. Sorry, it was late, I was hungry it was a long day. Video is rendering in youtube, will post when finished.

Thursday

A clearer look...

Part of the video interview, I like to keep my followers interested(fun fact I have 0 followers) Correction as of April 15, I have now 3 followers.

His name is...

Juan Antonio Garza Jr. A 24 year old(didn't take long for the reveal did it?), whose life as a musician and as full time student at The University of Texas at Brownsville, is filled with challenges. We have seen the challenge a man faces washing cars, now we will see what Juan faces.

After a few long weeks...

I'm back. This time(I know this is only the second video entry but bear with me) Lives Gone By has gone where no man has gone before, to a cafe. In spicing up this blog and video interviews, I have gone to a young man whose name shall remain a mystery until the next  entry. He's a musician, a fighter and a lover. Proving to us, yet again that it only takes us one minute to see how UNIQUE we really are.

Friday

It only takes a minute...

Life is filled with moments that help us interact with one another. Those moments are filled with people which are sometimes our best friends or complete strangers. They shape the lives we live. It doesnt matter how different we are, we share the common goal. To live. That is why I have taken it upon myself to dedicate this blog to people that are unique in some way or another. With a subject like this at hand I am left to do one thing and one thing only, to RECORD.  I will record those moments that show us who we really and what we do to LIVE.

Sometimes, it only takes a minute to see how unique we really are.
